V. International Western Cultural and Literary Studies Symposium
MEMORY
In Greek Mythology, the goddess of memory Mnemosyne is the Mother of Muses, the goddesses of various arts. Thus, it is possible to say that memory, literature and the other arts are related. In the texts from the Classical Greek to the present memory is one of the principal themes of literature. Memory is closely related both to the content and creative process of literature as it uses language as a medium to reflect culture, identity as well as memory itself.
Memory studies has gained momentum in recent years; the findings in the fields of neuro-biology and cognitive science provide new perspectives on literature for researchers. In this sense, this field of study, which we may call relatively new, is developing in our country, Turkey as well. The purpose of the 5th BAKEA Symposium which will be held here in Sivas, Turkey is to contribute this new interdisciplinary field generating new and original literary and language studies.
The 5th BAKEA International Western Cultural and Literary Studies Symposium taking place on October 4 – 6, 2017, at Cumhuriyet University, Sivas, Turkey welcomes participants working on the below topics in the context of Memory and Literature.
